Our Four Aims
Alpha Sigma Alpha focuses on four aims: Spiritual, Social, Physical and Intellectual. We strive to live out each aim every day and they develop us into strong women of poise and purpose.
Spiritual Aim
Rituals and traditions are passed down from year to year. These rituals and traditions connect the past to the present, and will eventually connect the future. Alpha is so much more than a group of individual women; it’s a rich history of women who hold themselves to a higher standard and want to give back to their community in order to humbly represent Alpha in the best light possible. We fulfill this aim by having bible study, practicing yoga, and making ourselves a priority.
Our social aim is a great way to get to know different organizations better and interact with their awesome members. We have several mixers every year, where we do anything from grilling out with the baseball team, to playing Minute To Win It games with another Greek organization. Every year we have a themed formal and informal dance. Creating these relationships help us to have a stronger Greek community, as well as strengthen the bond between our members.
Social Aim
Physical Aim
Another important aim is the physical aim. Alpha requires it's members to gain an intramural point each semester. Intramurals range from football and volleyball to ping pong. Each intramural is extremely fun and getting the opportunity to play with your sisters makes it even better. Alpha has teams that are both competitive and non-competitive. In the past year, Alpha has won volleyball, football and basketball championships.
The resources that Alpha has provided has allowed us to earn the highest cumulative GPA 12 out of the past 17 semesters and highest semester GPA 11 out of the past 19 semesters. We have Study Bug awards given each week to a member who is doing a great job keeping up with their academic work and we also have a Smarty Panties award that is given away to members that are put in a drawing for getting A’s on papers or tests. These incentives help give the extra push for members to reach for their academic potential.
